About The Adept Way

Updated on

The Adept Way is an independent buying-guide site about socket sets, wrench sets and mechanic tool kits. We help you pick the right set for the car, truck and home jobs you actually do.

We write for people who work in their own garage: homeowners, weekend DIYers and retirees who would rather change their own brakes or oil than pay a shop.

What we cover

Our guides cover socket sets in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive, impact sockets, ratcheting and combination wrench sets, and full mechanic kits in a case.

We also explain the parts that confuse people, like SAE and metric sizes, deep and shallow sockets, breaker bars and swivels. And we cover the everyday car jobs where those tools earn their keep.

How we put a guide together

We read the specs, size ranges and maker details for each set we cover. We look at what owners report after months of use, good and bad.

Then we write it up in plain words, with clear picks and side-by-side comparisons. Our How we research page explains the steps.

What we are not

We don't make or sell tools. No brand pays us to rank its sets.

The Adept Way isn't affiliated with GEARWRENCH, TEKTON, Craftsman, DeWalt, VEVOR or any other tool maker.

We don't claim to have used every set we write about. When we recommend one, we tell you why, based on its specs, its features and what buyers say.

How the site is paid for

Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

It doesn't change which sets we pick. The details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
